MORE THAN TEACHING

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23, 24.

Marguerite Ryle, a devoted volunteer at Bangkok Adventist International School in Thailand, embarked on a journey of service and faith in 2019. Teaching at a school deeply rooted in church values, Marguerite considered it a privilege to serve the community, recognizing the blessings that came with her role.

But her excitement in that school was strongly hit by COVID, when the whole world stopped, and it was not different in Bangkok. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Marguerite remained steadfast in her commitment to outreach. After the lockdown was a little bit more unrestricted, they got back into their outreach activities. Through Branch Sabbath Schools held every Sabbath afternoon, she and her team provided a nurturing environment for underprivileged children from Buddhist and Muslim backgrounds, teaching them Bible stories, memory verses, and songs while fostering friendships.

Marguerite’s dedication extended beyond the classroom as she visited shut-ins, sharing the message of hope and compassion. Her encounter with Ma’am Jubilant from Adventist World Radio led to a remarkable discovery of three Godpods (handheld radios) loaded with the Thai Bible, a testament to the miraculous ways in which God provides for His people.

Marguerite called upon the power of prayer as the need for additional Branch Sabbath Schools arose, seeking volunteers to expand their outreach efforts. Despite the difficulties posed by the strong Buddhist social foundation in Thailand, she remained hopeful, trusting in the guidance of the Holy Spirit to lead their endeavors.

Throughout her journey, Marguerite found strength and support in the diverse group of individuals she encountered, including student nurses, trainee pastors from AIU, and faithful Thai and Filipino SDA church members. Their collective efforts exemplified the transformative power of faith and community, inspiring hope and resilience in the hearts of those they served.
